It’s Not Too Late!

Did you make that list of activities you want to do, activities that make you smile, and create happy memories you’ll be able to fondly cherish years from now, that make your life merry – that I suggested you do in last month’s article so that you have a merry month of May?

If you did or even if you didn’t, now is a great time – now that it feels like summer weather is finally here – to make a list of how you can make this summer really special and memorable.

I updated my list this morning and added a column to check them off as I do these special activities. Making my list of things I really want to do this summer, and special people I want to spend time with and people I even want to go on trips to visit, brings me joy on this very hot and humid day when I am hiding out indoors in the cool air. Checking off some of these activities as already accomplished feels even better.

One of the items on my list is kayaking and hiking at a lake nearby that I love because it’s almost wild and has a wonderful diversity of plant communities that I love hiking through. You can only go there when it’s cool because the biting bugs get really horrendous during the heat of summer.

So, a couple of weeks ago, my husband and I made it out to that lake. We left late and my husband said that it was “late to go”. Eager to not miss our chance to enjoy that lake and its forests before many months had passed and it was Fall, I said, “Let’s go!”

It turned out to be the perfect time to be there. The wind had died down after being quite windy all day (definitely not good for boating) and the water was smooth. After kayaking along the lakeshore, we went for a beautiful walk though the trees. Just before we left to drive home, I walked back to the boat landing to see the red glow of the sunset through the trees and over the water.

So, what can you do today or this week to make your day joyful and memorable – even if it feels like it’s late in the day?
